- Madison Reemsnyder, a rising junior at Xavier University, claimed the 2024 Ohio Women’s Open title on Saturday at Heatherwoode Golf Club. Reemsnyder, the leader after the first round, posted rounds of 71-73 to finish at two-over 144.

“Winning this has a lot of significance. I’ve really been looking for an individual win in my college career and I’ve been close but haven’t gotten there,” Reemsyder said after her victory. “This individual win has instilled a lot of confidence in me. I’m really happy I got to play in Ohio in an event like this.”

Reemsnyder showed exceptional patience during the first round. During a day that saw winds gust to 20+ mph, Madison made three birdies before a closing double-bogey to take a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.

Molly Skapik, Clare Yeazell and Amelia Lee all posted a two-over par 73 in the first round and were in prime position to challenge Reemsnyder on Saturday. The rising junior at Xavier distanced herself early as she made three consecutive birdies starting at the difficult par-4 second hole.

Reemsyder continued her strong play and was two-under-par for the tournament through thirteen holes, holding a two-shot lead over Lee. Feeling a little pressure, Madison bogeyed 13, 14 and 15 to see her lead dwindle to just one shot over Lee and Skapik. 

Reemsnyder regrouped and got back to playing her own game down the stretch.

“I just needed to stick to one-shot at a time and (I) thought par was going to be good those last few holes,” she noted. “I was patient and just stuck to my game; one shot at a time.”

Reemsnyder closed with a bogey at the last, as did Lee and Skapik, which was good enough for a one-shot victory. 

Skapik, a Miamisburg, OH, native and former University of Louisville golfer, played in the event previously. “I’m just really happy they decided to bring this tournament back because it hasn’t been around for about four years. It’s always been in northern Ohio so having it right in my backyard has been pretty nice,” she noted. “Being able to play at home and have some of my friends come out and watch has been a treat. It’s been really great and I think they will have a really good event for years to come.”

Yeazell, from West Chester, closed with a chip-in birdie to claim the junior division. Committed to playing at the University of Indianapolis, she posted a twelve-shot victory over her nearest junior competitor, open to those players who have yet to begin college.

Susan Bond, a PGA of America Professional from Vero Beach, FL, claimed the Senior Division title with an eight-over-par 150. 

The Ohio Women’s Open was hosted at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, OH, after relocating from Eagle Rock Golf Club in Defiance, OH. The event will be hosted at Heatherwoode moving forward as the Southern Ohio PGA took over operations in 2023.
