Hi Everyone, I hope you have had a good day. I know you have not heard from me as much lately, and it’s intended, as there is not been much to report on. But I wanted to share a couple of items today. First and Foremost, THANK YOU! for working with these new protocols to allow our almost 1 million golfers in Ohio an opportunity to have our great game as an outlet during this pandemic. I’m positive it has taken its toll on you, your family and your staffs and I hope you are all staying Healthy and Safe!
Have you filed for your PPP (Payroll Protection Program) or EIDL (Economic Injury Disaster Loan)? Call your banker, accountant or advisor if you have not. These are ever evolving programs and while there may be some restrictions with either opportunity, I’ve been assured from many people that the intent of these programs and potential additional programs to come is to ensure our businesses see the other side of this situation.
I’m getting several questions on having practice areas open. Many of the Health Districts don’t mention them in their notices to allow our courses to open back up. Here is what the Ohio Department of Health released in an email back to the 113 Health Districts on Saturday, April 5th. “We know that many of you have been receiving questions on golfing and golf clubs. Below is a statement you may use when responding to golf course inquiries.” “If your golf course is operating as an outdoor recreation opportunity and abiding by all the order’s social distancing requirements, there is likely not a health concern. However, if the golf course is operating other businesses as part of the operations (restaurants, clubhouse, spa, driving range, putting and practice greens, etc.), then you should be prepared to explain why you deem those business operations essential.”
Our upcoming challenges will likely be the current orders ban on Organized Sports Competitions and Leagues. We come to this conclusion based on the repeated statements from our State Leadership on their intention to gradually release social distancing requirements. When the time is correct, as we don't want to threaten our Golf Course Operations, we will likely need to seek additional guidance from our State Department of Health to allow our Golf Events to begin (Because a Golf Event is much different than a Basketball Game)
Social Distancing will likely be with us for a while to come. I urge you to take this time to innovate and pivot your operations to what will be the new normal for a while longer and perhaps see how you can adapt some of these procedures for the long term.
