The Road to the 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship
- Prestige, Hope, and an Array of Talent

US_Am_1- As the 123rd U.S. Amateur Championship draws closer, the anticipation continues to build. The oldest championship organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA) is set to kick-off its qualifying on June 28th, across 95 venues nationwide. This year, over 7,500 players will vie for the opportunity to make their mark on this historic championship.

The National Amateur will be held August 14th thru 20th and take place at Cherry Hills Country Club, situated just south of Denver. This will be the third time that Cherry Hills has hosted the U.S. Amateur.

Our area qualifier is scheduled for July 17th at Moraine Country Club and will be conducted over 36-holes of stroke play with the low two (2) scorers advancing to the Championship Proper.  It is worth noting that this will be the last time the 36-hole format will be used for qualifying, as the USGA will be shifting to 18-hole qualifiers in 2024 and adding a second and final stage to this qualifier.

US_Am_2Intriguingly, this year's field features fifteen talented teenagers, a testament to the rising young talents in golf.

Among the participants who have traveled the furthest to qualify are David Jennings and Cameron Crawford, both hailing from Utah. Jennings has an impressive track record, having defeated Crawford in a playoff after they both tied at seven under par in the fifty-four-hole Utah Mid-Amateur Championship last year.

Notable past qualifiers competing this year include, Jordan Gilkison, 2022 Ohio Open Champion and one of last year's qualifiers,  Austin Sipe, who is back in the amateur ranks after a multi-year professional stint, Nicolas Paxson, who not only qualified in 2015 but was also an alternate last year and the winner of the 2018 Metropolitan Championship. Also in the field is Bryce Haney, the 2021 Metropolitan Champion, Davis Gochenouer, the Boy's State 2022, D2 Individual Champion, Jeff Scohy, the 2010 Metropolitan Champion and multiple-time MVGA Player of the Year, and the defending Metropolitan Champion, Mikkel Mathiesen.

Play is set to begin at 7am off of both tees at Moraine Country Club.
