Girls Enjoy Day in the Sun at Janet Beardsley Event

Area girls ages 8-18 competed at Community Golf Course yesterday in the 2009 Janet Beardsley Junior Girls Golf Tournament.  Conducted by the Dayton District Women’s Golf Association, the tournament is held annually in honor of the late Janet Beardsley.  Janet was one of the Miami Valley’s most distinguished female golfers.  She played for the men’s teams at Fairmont High School and Denison University where she accumulated many honors.  She was also a three-time state amateur champion and nine-time city amateur champion.

The girls were split into age groups in order to ensure everyone had a good time.  The oldest age group winner was Micaela Cronin, a senior-to-be at CJ.  Micaela torched her age bracket with a scintillating 80.  Playing the Dales course, Christine Hoy had the low round of the day in the All-Ages division with a smooth 79.  In the 14-15 age group, Columbia’s Claudia DeAntonio was medalist with an 89.  Gabby Marcum came in a close second with a solid 97.

Our younger, less competitive girls also had a great turnout for their 9-hole rounds.  In the 14-16 age group, Kristy Kagy shot an impressive 45.  In the 8-12 age group, Lorena DeAntonio also shot a 45 to win.  Finally, some of the girls chose to play in the Play and Learn Division in which they all received grades of A+!
