Walnut Grove to Host

046-LThe journey to the 123rd U.S. Women's Amateur begins on June 19th, as the first out of 25 Sectional Qualifiers takes place to determine the participants for the championship. The national championship will be held from August 7th through 13th at the prestigious Bel-Air Country Club, which will become the second location in Los Angeles and the second George Thomas designed course to host a USGA Championship in 2023. To secure a spot in the tournament, 67 female golfers between the ages of 14 and 26 representing various countries including Australia, the Netherlands, Mexico, and the People's Republic of China along with players from 11 different states will compete in our Sectional Qualifier on Thursday, July 13th at Walnut Grove Country Club. With five qualifying positions available, the competition is sure to be intense.

Looking back, local favorite and 2021 qualifier Marissa Wenzler will tee off at 10:20 A.M. as well as fellow 2021 qualifier Blair Stockett, from Jackson, Mississippi, she will tee off at 9:10 A.M. Others from our area include Sarah Willis, Makenna Jones, Brynna Mardis, Jenna Hayes and Lillian Middleton.  

For over a decade, Walnut Grove has hosted this most prestigious Women's Amateur Championship Sectional with two national champions qualifying through our location. Jensen Castle won the national title in 2021 and in 2017, Sophia Schubert was the first qualifier to go on to win the Women's Amateur from WGCC. Current LPGA professionals that have previously qualified at Walnut Grove include Lauren Hartlage and Jessica Porvasnik.

Play will begin at 8am and the Public is Welcome to Attend.
