Miami Valley GC set to host Metropolitan
Metro_Trophy - The 102nd Area Amateur Championship, now commonly referred to as the Metropolitan, tees off for the 11th time on Thursday at Miami Valley Golf Club. The last time the Championship was hosted by MVGC was in 2013 when Nick Scott had an impressive win by 10 shots in the rain-shortened championship.

Metropolitan Champions scheduled to compete include 2021 Champion Bryce Haney, 2025 Champion Pete Betzold, and 5-time Champion Pete Samborsky. Mikkel Mathieson, our defending champion, is playing in the Northeast Amateur, an Elite Amateur Series event that boasts past champions such as Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, Hal Sutton, and Ben Crenshaw.

After 36 holes, the top 32 scores and ties will make the cut for the final rounds. Tee times start each day at 7:30 am, with leaders teeing off last. First-round starting assignments will be distributed this upcoming Monday.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Miami Valley Golf Club, designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1919, has a rich history. It hosted the 1931 Western Open and the PGA Championship in 1957, where the competition was played under a match-play format for the last time. It is historically significant and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Players will face challenges from the course's angled hazards. Holes 9 and 18 have Ross's famous cross bunkering, angled to provide a better distance to the green for those willing to take more risks. The par five at #15 uses a creek to achieve the same effect. Friday afternoon promises an exciting finish with these challenges.
