- The 2024 Mid-Amateur Champion got off to a quick start in his quest to defend his title in the Miami Valley Golf Mid-Amateur Championship's first round today at Walnut Grove Country Club. With a round of 6 birdies and no bogeys, he holds a 5-shot lead over four players at one under par.

The Senior Metropolitan competition is much closer, with Brian Bair leading at one under par, followed closely by reinstated amateur Rick Lyons at even par. Five-time Metropolitan and two-time Mid-Amateur Champion Pete Samborsky is one back at +1.

In the 65 to 74 age division, John Rodney leads at two over par. In the 75 and older division, Skip Snow, our Overall Champion in 2001 and 2002, leads with a score of 75.

The hardest hole was the par-four 11th, which averaged almost a full stroke over par, while the easiest hole was #16, which played just over par.

Play resumes tomorrow at 8 am, with the 75 and older division teeing off first, followed by the 65 to 74-year-olds. The Mid-Am and Overall Senior Division will follow, with our Senior Leaders teeing off at 12:30 pm.
