Goecke & Haney Reach Semi's

23FB_052408382244_J0A2025- The journey to the 8th US Four-Ball Championship, a two-man better ball team championship and one of seventeen National Championships conducted by the USGA, is quite extensive. A total of 2,551 two-person teams embarked on the qualifying process at one of the 50 scattered qualifiers across the US. From these qualifiers and a few exemption categories, a field of 128 teams was formed for the championship, making the odds of making it into the championship field approximately 5%.

To advance beyond the two rounds of Stroke Play Qualifying and secure a spot in the top 32 teams for Match Play, a team had to achieve a two-round better ball total of eight under par. Additionally, a 10-team playoff determined the 31st and 32nd seeds. Thus, the odds of reaching this stage were reduced to the 1% range for those who initially entered the championship with 2,551 teams.

Bryce Haney and Tyler Goecke successfully completed the two rounds of Stroke Play Qualifying at twelve under par, earning them the 13th seed and eliminating any concerns about not making the Match Play Cut.

Winning a single match would put a team in the ½ percentage range, and Haney and Goecke achieved that with a 1-up victory. Winning two matches would be an accomplishment in the 0.03% range, and once again, Haney and Goecke secured their second victory with a 3 & 2 margin, advancing to the Quarterfinals. Advancing through three matches would further narrow the odds to the 0.14% range, and once again, Haney and Goecke achieved that with a 1-up win. However, their journey ended at this point as Tyler Goecke and Bryce Haney, the 2021 Metropolitan Champion, lost their semifinal match to the eventual winners, Aaron Du and Sampson Zheng from California.

It was a fantastic week for our two local golfers, who showcased their skills on the Kiawah Island Club's Cassique and River Courses. It's worth mentioning that they even survived a five-hole playoff in the Oasis Club Qualifier last August to secure the final qualifying position out of their local qualifier.  Because of their great play Bryce and Tyler are now exempt into the next two US Four Ball Championships if they both remain amateurs.

Congrats in a Great Championship Gentlemen!
