 Scott Roderick
Scott_Roderick_winner- We are delighted to announce that Scott Roderick has been selected as our 2023 Volunteer of the Year!

Scott demonstrated dedication throughout the past year by taking on a new role as the Official Scorer, in addition to continuing his work as an on-course scorer and forecaddie for numerous events. In total, Scott volunteered for 18 events in 2023, showcasing his commitment to Miami Valley Golf, which he has done the past five seasons. We will be honoring Scott during the banquet following the Spring Better Ball event on April 29th at NCR CC.

To get to know Scott better and discover his passion for the game of golf...

Scott's journey with golf began at the age of seven when he inherited his older brother's golf clubs. He spent countless hours honing his skills by hitting practice balls around the backyard.

One of the pivotal moments in Scott's golfing journey took place during his service in the Army. In 2006, during a large golf outing with his unit in sunny Orlando, Florida, he faced a challenging 143-yard par 3 hole. His tee shot soared through the air and landed an astonishing three inches from the hole, securing his victory in the closest to the hole competition.

His reward for this incredible shot was a $50 gift certificate to the PGA Superstore, which he promptly used to purchase a Sunday bag.

Scott's commitment to service extends far beyond the golf course. After serving honorably in the US Army for 25 years, he retired in 2017. Today, he leads a semi-retired life as a lawyer, occasionally lending his expertise to those in need. However, his dedication to giving back remains steadfast.

Scott generously volunteers as a coach with the PGA Jr. League, where he nurtures the next generation of golfers and shares his profound love for the sport. Twice a year, he takes on the role of proctor at the Ohio Bar Exam, and on election day, he dutifully serves as a poll worker.

During the golf off-season, Scott stays active by joining a bowling league, ensuring he remains limber for the fairways and greens. While he was once an active member of Mensa, his priorities have shifted since moving to Southwest Ohio, where his passion for golf and community service now take center stage.

Scott and his wife, Kelly, have celebrated 27 years of marriage. They call Springfield, OH, their home and share it with two incredibly pampered cats. They are even considering adopting a dog, now that they reside in the countryside.

Thanks for being a dedicated Miami Valley Golf Volunteer!
