The 36 Hole Sectional Qualifier for the US Amateur Public Links Championship was held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Beavercreek Golf Club.  Great weather was combated with difficult course conditions; fast, but true greens and firm fairways kept many scores above par.  On the day of said competition, the competitors were told they were fighting for just one (1) position in the championship proper to be held July 15-20 in Lorten, VA at Laurel Hill Golf Club.   But on the day following the qualifier, the USGA informed us that there would now be two (2) players moving on from our sectional.  After the morning round, Chase Wilson from Zanesville, Ohio lead the field by 5 shots after firing a bogey-free, five-under round of 67.  In second place with an even-par 72 was Taylor Holt of Centerville, OH who quickly got into red numbers by birdieing his first four holes.  Seven players found themselves within seven shots of the lead after the completion of the first round.
The first afternoon group to come in had Michael Roberts of Franklin, OH finish his round with 4 birdies in a row to finish at a one (1) over par total of 145.  He would end being our second alternate for the USGA championship.  However, Tyler Klava of Pace, Florida made a great run with a second 18 score of 67, and a back nine 33 to finish four-under-par total.  He would end up claiming the first qualifying position, and will move onto Laurel Hill Golf Club in July.  Our second qualifier is Nick Scott of Union, Ohio; he was the only other player to finish in red numbers for the championship.  His second-round 70 put him at one-under-par for the tournament, just three back of Klava.  Chase Wilson, the first round leader, claimed the first alternate spot with an even-par 144.

Our champion, Tyler Klava, and runner up, Nick Scott, will be advancing to the US Amateur Public Links Championship.  Klava was fortunate enough to qualify ast year as well; he made it to the round of 32 in match play before he was knocked out of the tournament.  Good luck to Tyler and Nick, and thanks to all the competitors, volunteers, and of course Beavercreek Golf Club for hosting a great qualifier.
