Sipe Leads Metropolitan

The first round of the Miami Valley Metropolitan brought the best players to the top of the board.  The players faced difficult hole locations and stronger winds that kept nearly all 117 players over par.  Our first under-par score came from Sam Geise who fired a 68.  His consistent nines of 34-34 came about albeit a neck injury.  The rising sophomore of Wittenberg University is coming off of a hot spring season, where he claimed his first medalist honors as a collegiate player, and competed in the DIII NCAA National Championship.

Following Geise's 68 was Austin Sipe's astounding five-under-par 66.  Austin was the first to admit that this was his lowest round of golf he had ever played.  With just 28 putts and a back nine 32, Austin found himself at the top of the leader board after round one.  His best shot of the round may have been his tee shot on the short par 4 14th where he drove the green and two-putted for a smooth birdie.  Austin just finished his final year at Centerville High School, and will be sporting green and gold in the fall as he will begin his freshman year at Wright State.

Tomorrow's tee times will begin at 7:30 am, and our first round leaders will tee off at 1:50pm.  Following tomorrow's round, the field will be cut down to 32 players and ties.  After today's play, the cut line stands at five-over-par.
