From the Shortgrass for a cold 2nd Weekend in May
golf is still here
Be_patientAs we all continue to come to terms with a world that is constantly changing, our golf course operators are working hard to remain open while balancing the ever shifting policies and outlines that come from not just the state, but also their individual health districts.

Failure to do so, may very well close the course.

What is allowed at one golf course may not be allowed at another.  So please continue being patient with everyone as they work to follow the guidelines that are  mandated.

GOLF SEASON UPDATE

2020_Tournament_SeasonDue to State Orders on the COVID19 pandemic and each Local Health Districts interpretations of the State Orders we will be forced to adapt our 2020 Events Season in several different ways.  The first and likely most substantial way is we will not be able to have any Shotgun Starts.  An additional adjustment will be the method in determining how a Golf Ball is holed which occasionally will be subjective in nature.  With respect to additional social distancing protocols, team formats will be suspended, host facilities will currently only be able to provide single rider golf carts unless they have petitions between players and food and beverage options will be greatly affected.

With all these restrictions to consider we will shift all events for the foreseeable future to association play days which will unfortunately have a much smaller field size and no type of organized competition as required.

Generally, these play days, will be open to any gender or age and only available through online registration.  We are currently working with our Golf Facilities to develop these play days and will release the dates as they become available.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as your association tries to navigate responsibly through these uncertain times.

Is your MEMBERSHIP ACTIVE?
GHIN_Online_JoinIs your GHIN Membership currently inactive?  Meaning can you currently post scores?  Clearly there are plenty of reasons you may not be active.  However, if you indeed intend to renew and would like to avoid all social distancing concerns you may do so online.

When you join online just choose the facility that you traditionally play or join eClub if you are not affiliated with a golf course and all the back end actions happen automatically.

It's easy, safe and a great way to help support our game!

Thanks for your consideration!

Golf Fitness - Sprint Interval Training

Cat_CamelsEven though gyms, and some courses, are still closed there is still plenty that can be done to work on your golf game.  We are offering some different programs to work on your game but today I wanted to talk about Sprint Interval Training (SIT).  SIT is a type of training that can produce amazing results and can be done with little to no equipment right at home.  I am going to lay out a sample workout but right now we are offering free at-home programming so contact us if you would like a built out program.

Score Posting Questions
Send Additional Questions to info@mvgolf.org
Q: If I don't hole out in the "Traditional Sense" do I still post my score ?
Ball_in_HoleA: Yes, While in all of these instances, the ball is not holed per the Rules of Golf (Rule 3.3c), a round played under these conditions will result in an acceptable score for handicap purposes using the most likely score guidelines (see Rule 3.3 of the Rules of Handicapping).
Q: How can I post my score if the clubhouse is closed ?
GHIN_App_IconA: Given the current concerns of spreading the Coronavirus, we are recommending that you use the USGA-GHIN Mobile App or post through our site or ghin.com.  This is also a good recommendation moving forward and we will likely begin phasing out our Scoring Kiosks wherever possible to avoid future contaminations.
Q: I can't post a score as it says I'm inactive and I can't go into the Golf Shop to renew.
A: You can renew at almost all of our Public Access Facilities by following this link and selecting where you play the most golf
when to NOT post your scores
March 15th signaled the start of the New Score Posting Season in the Miami Valley.  Here are a few things to remember when it comes to NOT posting your score.  All other times you should!

When_to_PostSo, don't post your score....
  • When your score can’t be verified by another person
  • While being coached on the course
  • When you play using non-conforming clubs, non-conforming balls, or non-conforming tees;
  • When you don't play the required number of holes, Less than 6 for 9, less than 14 for 18.  For the holes you haven’t played, you post net par for the hole.
  • And when you are not playing your own ball — scrambles, shambles or foursomes (alternate shot).

And remember...A key tenet of the World Handicap System is that it is based on the fact that a you will try to make the best score at every hole in every round.

So you post just about everything and that includes scores when you play Preferred Lies or adapting to modified Holes due to the Coronavirus !

There is a great deal of beauty at our courses as recently captured by a staff member at Sycamore Creek as they left for the evening a few weeks ago.
