For the over 500 players who advanced through local qualifying and the over 400 others who are exempt, the second and final stage for U.S. Open hopefuls is this Monday, June 3rd.  There are twelve sectional qualifying sites.  The Springfield CC site administered by Miami Valley Golf, three international sites in Japan, Canada and England, and eight others in the U.S. 

Often referred to as "Golf’s Longest Day," sectional qualifiers are played over 36 holes in one day. These qualifiers are not only a test of skill, but also of endurance and mental fortitude. 

Spots are determined by the quantity and quality of the field.  This year there are 73 players competing for 5 qualifying positions at the Springfield Sectional.

In most years, sectional qualifying produces nearly half of the 156-player field. Lucas Glover, the 2009 champion at Bethpage Black, remains the most recent sectional qualifier to win the U.S. Open. In 2005, Michael Campbell validated the USGA’s decision to add international qualifying sites by winning the championship at Pinehurst No. 2 after advancing from the Walton Heath sectional. Orville Moody (1969) is the most recent golfer to win the U.S. Open by enduring both stages of qualifying.

Back with us this year are past qualifiers, Will Grimmer (2018 & 2014), Dylan Meyer (2018), Brain Stuard, 2016 Zurich Classic Champion (2018, 2017, 2014 & 2013) Corey Conners, this years Valero Texas Open Champion (2017) and Nick Hardy (2016 & 2015)

Local Golfers Austin Greaser and Zach Crawford, both from Vandalia are in this years field.  Austin was the low qualifier out of the Lexington, KY site when he shot 67 to advance and Zach advanced out of the Powell, OH site.

Spectators are welcome and there is no cost to attend.
