FTSG Local Golf News for November 6
Greaser, Player of the Year

coverWhat can be said about our Player of the Year that we all don’t know about, he's a rising star in our game and his future certainly has unlimited potential.  He skipped defending his Ohio Amateur Championship this summer as he was invited to participate 120th Western Amateur, in that Championship he lost in the Semifinalists to the Eventual Champion.  Next, he qualified for the US Amateur in West Virginia in record fashion, then, showing full control of his game he qualified for Match Play and went on win all of Matches and was 3up through 27 holes before losing on the 35th hole in this Summer's US Amateur at Oakmont.

Congratulations to Austin Greaser

The Three R's
A Guide to Treatment and Exercise
15toFitGolf-with-guyAs we move into the off-season for golf we will be seeing more and more people wanting to start exercise programming.  It can be very tempting to jump right into strength training exercises or doing the latest exercises you have seen on social media.  However, there is definitely a progression of exercises that all individuals should go through to reduce the risk of injury and to get the most out of the programming.  If you skip steps and start doing strengthening exercises around a dysfunctional movement pattern, then you are only going to make that movement worse.  To start a foundational program, whether it's for treating an injury or just starting an exercise program, you want to follow the Three R’s.

If the temperate drops below 50 degrees or raises much about 80 you may want to bring your clubs into a climate controlled environment to ensure the epoxy does not crack if it's cold or loosen when it's warm elevating the possibility of loosing the clubhead.
Handicapping - Stroke Index Allocation

The Rules of Handicapping, that went into effect in 2020 now recommend using Course Rating data to rank the holes for Stroke Index allocation. As we get ready to issue our Course Ratings from this past season, your Miami Valley Golf, will also send these Stroke Index Allocations to to all the facilities that where rated this past season.

The recommendation is to allocate odd strokes on the front and even strokes on the back.

Specific strokes will be allocated using three-hole clusters, with the #1 and #2 stroke holes in the middle cluster, IE Holes 4-6 and 13-15.

It's import to understand that Par Integrity is not the determining factor for the lower Allocation, but the hole that the higher handicap player needs the most help.

From the Archives

IMG_E1437-e1544840740669The Bogie Busters of Dayton, Ohio was an annual celebrity golf tournament that ran from 1967 to 1991.[1] Started by Dayton-area businessman Cy Laughter, the event brought together many celebrities and business and political leaders. The tournament was played at Dayton Country Club from 1967 to 1974 and then subsequently was played at the larger NCR Country Club.[2] Beyond the fame it brought, the tournament also played a key role in the construction of the University of Dayton Arena. Through Bogie Busters, UD Athletic Director Tom Frericks and Governor James Rhodes of Ohio met one another.[3]   Governor Rhodes was key in securing a loan for the University that tremendously helped aid in the construction of the arena.[4]
