First played more than a Century Ago, the Metropolitan Championship brings together the Miami Valley's Best Amateur Golfers in a 72 Hole Stroke Play Contest with a cut to low 30 and ties for weekend play.  This year championships will be held at the Country Club of the North, Thursday, July 21st through Sunday, July 24th.  

With rounds of 72-63-65 Gilkison, a sophomore at Kent State from Springboro, finished the tournament at 10-under 200 for a one stroke victory over Wright State senior Mikkel Mathiesen to become the first non-professional to win the Open since Bobby Lewis in 1978 when the event was held at Mill Creek in Boardman.

Only five other amateurs, including Jack Nicklaus in 1956, have won what is regarded as the state championship.

Mathieson, a native of Denmark and Wright State Golfer finished second with rounds and of 69-65-67 and Avery Schneider, from New Albany, was third at 70-67-65—202.

This Thursday, July 7th, brings some of the country’s best Women Amateurs to Walnut Grove Country Club for the Sectional Qualifier for the 112 th US Women’s Amateur.  

There are 55 golfers who are in the qualifying field at WGCC and they will compete for five (5) positions in the Championship Proper.  

Our Qualifying Location has had two National Champions come through our site.  Jensen Castle won last year and Sophia Schubert in 2017. 

The 17th annual Pat Rupp Memorial Golf Tournament will be played at the prestigious NCR Country Club on Monday, July 18. 

All proceeds from the Tournament support Catholic Social Services' programs that assist area children. Whether it be providing critical parenting skills, a safe environment for supervised visitation, professional counseling, support for refugee families, or food security and stabilization services, your support helps CSSMV strengthen families throughout our region.

Facebook Group Bring Golfers from across Ohio together!

“I was fed up with showing up to a golf course and waiting for a group to play with.” 

Nearly every golfer has been in Justin Coy’s shoes.  

Justin and his wife moved to Columbus from Cleveland, leaving all his golf buddies two hours north. Like every golfer, Justin needed to scratch his golfing itch, but it just wasn’t the same as a single at his local public courses. He enjoyed the camaraderie of golf, but suddenly he was spending more time with the starter and on the putting green waiting for an opening on the tee sheet. 

Then an idea struck Justin when he met up with a total stranger to exchange a golf club via an online “Buy, Sell, Trade” group on facebook.

“I decided to start a facebook group. If people could meet up to exchange clubs, why couldn’t they meet up to play golf?” Justin said.

The hip hinge is one of the most fundamental movements for normal activities of daily living but also extremely important for the golf swing.  The hip hinge involves a controlled bending at the hips by pushing the butt backwards and keeping the spine straight, followed by extension of the hips (thrusting the butt forward) to come back upright.  Simply put - it's bending over to touch your toes and standing back upright.  The most common exercise that involves the hip hinge is the deadlift.  Done correctly, the hip hinge is very physically demanding.  It involves mobility, flexibility, stability, and strength throughout the entire body.  If I was told that I could only do one exercise for the rest of my life it would be the deadlift/hip hinge.

Local qualifying begins in May. Entrants will play in girls’ and boys’ divisions in four age categories, with scoring centered around skill development in driving, chipping and putting. Local Qualifying Sites are Tri-City Golf Ranch, Heatherwoode, Southwest Golf Ranch, The Golf Club at Dublin and Blacklick Woods Golf Course
