FTSG Local Golf News for January 8
rOUNDS pOSTED lEADERS FROM 2021

Bitzer_and_WillinsAs we look back on our Active Score posting Season, we saw similar rounds posted, overall, as we did during the first year of this decade.  Leading the way again was Penny Bitzer with 175 rounds posted and Gordon Willins posting an even 200 rounds as he set the pace for the Men.

Rounding out the Top Five for the ladies where Gail Moore at 157 in second, Vicki Anderson at 128 in third and tied for fourth was Deb Shartle and Carol Stout at 121 rounds each.  The only person not on this list from 2020 was Carol Stout who played just 3 rounds more than last years 5th place lady, Jade Parsons.

On the Men’s side, Mike Young jumps into the top five in second place with 165 rounds, Jim Marcum also joins the list this year with 164 rounds before finishing out the top five with previous top five finishers Robert “Red” O’Rourke at 160 followed closed by Tom Suttmiller at 158.

Active Score Posting Season in our Association for 2022 will again begin on March 15th and run through the end of November.  Don’t forget to still post those rounds if you are playing outside our active season if you are playing in an active season location such as the South or West.

How About that Christmas Gift!

Greaser_Full_InviteShortly before Christmas local golfer, Austin Greaser received an expected piece of mail that contained his invitation to the 84th Masters.   He received this invitation due to his runner up finish in this year’s US Amateur back in August at Oakmont CC (To View a 45 Minute Review of this Match)

Austin is believed to be the only Amateur from the Miami Valley to compete in the Masters.  Best of Luck to Austin as he starts is journey to play in the Master’s April 7th through the 10th.

Season Prep is Critical to Tournament Ops

2022_6x4_Final- Whether you are preparing for your first season using Golf Genius or transitioning from a prior season to a new season, there are important steps and practices that will help you run your season more smoothly, and help you transition to future seasons.

When preparing for an upcoming season you will need to:

  • Update Staff Managers: New staff members will need to be added as managers and departing staff members will need to be deactivated from your account.
  • Add/Update golf course details: Has your course been rerated by the local AGA?  If so make sure the Slope rating, Course rating, Yardages, and Handicap Allocations are correct.
  • Organize your past Events and Leagues into Categories: We suggest placing your events and leagues into the proper categories in the Customer Center and Event Directories.
  • Adding new Events and Leagues for 2022: If you have previous events and leagues that will be played again in the upcoming season, we recommend cloning them because information like portal setup, tournaments, logos, and banners will be copied over thereby saving you considerable time.
  • Organize Events and Leagues for your Club Website: Clubs typically allow members to view upcoming events and leagues on their club website by organizing them into listings such as Men's Events, Women's Events, Mixed Events, Junior Events etc.
  • Update the Master Roster: Update your Returning Members information and add any New Customers that have joined your facility.
  • Update Season Points: If you maintain season point standings (points earned across events), then you can automatically track them throughout the season.

The slow period between seasons gives you a great opportunity to set up your events and leagues and get a head start when you may have more time.

Internships Available for 2022

Lady_Interns_4x3Your Miami Valley Golf Association each golf season offers golf administration internships.  These paid internships can run from three to twelve months depending upon a candidate's availability, with flexible schedules based on the interns needs.

In order to be considered for an internship position, prospective applicants must be enrolled at a college or university, be a graduate student, a recent college graduate or someone just interested in Golf Association Management.  A background or major in golf management, journalism, communications, or photo journalism would be an asset but is not necessary for these positions.  A strong interest and knowledge of the game of golf is also a plus.

Intern_Photo_2The responsibilities of the intern positions entail championship administration, database management, website maintenance, junior golf and membership activities.  In addition, the selected interns will also assist the staff with general administration.

Applications will be accepted until February 1.
