FTSG Local Golf News for December 11
Winwood Most Improved Player in 2021

Winwood-Stephan-4x3Stephen Winwood, is the most improved player for the 2021 Season.  Starting the season with a 13.1 index on March 15th, Stephen played 65 rounds, most of them over his Home Course of Springfield Country Club and ended the season with a Handicap Index of 3.9.  His low round of 68 coming in early October at SCC.  This drop led to an improvement factor of 1.662.

The way the most improved factor is calculated is by adding 12 to the player’s Handicap Index on March 15 (can be done with any start date) This value is A, then add 12 to the player’s Handicap Index at the end date. This value is B.

You determine the improvement factor by dividing value A by value B, calculating to three decimal places. This is the improvement factor. The player with the highest improvement factor is the most improved player.

Congratulations Stephen!

Note:  Of the 9,690 GHIN Members in the Miami Valley, 30% showed improvement this past active season.

Last Hole in One in 2021?
Dreischarf-Tom_FTSGOur warm temperatures of late have increased our playing opportunities as we move into the middle part of December.  Over the past decade the last Hole in One of the Year can be all over the month or not at all as sometimes we don't play in December in the Miami Valley.

Yesterday, on the 17th Hole at Pipestone, Tom Dreischarf could have made the last Hole in One in the Miami Valley when he knocked in a 7 iron from 135 yards.  He now has Five Holes in One in his Golf Career.

Congratulations Tom!
Did You Know?

Aeraal_Golf_ShotFor many golf clubs hosting charitable golf events is both a way of adding revenue to the facilities bottom line and giving back to the community that supports them. Regardless of the size of the field, these outings require considerable time from the golf staff in preparation for the event.

We all know that when working with the event organizer several changes to the player roster is likely to occur prior to hosting the event. Utilizing a roster spreadsheet is often the most effective way to overcome the changes that will take place with contestants prior to the event. Using either a XLS, XLSX, or a CSV format will allow for the staff to upload all the needed information in a quick and effective way.

You can customize this file to include all the pertinent information needed for each of the players registered to play. Name, team, starting hole assignments, gender and handicaps are needed for most events. You can also make communicating with the players easier by including both their email address and cellular numbers for texting. Are you in need of shirt or shoe sizes for any tee gifts? This information can be included as well.

This file will allow for an easy transition of information from the event organizer to the facility staff. Best of all, after you have built the event in Golf Genius, it takes less than 5 minutes to upload this information saving you valuable time

If you are interested in more information on this process, please contact Dave Miller at the Golf Association.

The first time he swung at a golf ball, little, 9-year-old Frank Marchi figured he was going to hit it so hard; he'd knock it right on out of Columbus. So, let's see, grip tight, big backswing, let 'er rip.

"I missed it and fell down in a heap and couldn’t get up”  Marchi remembered.
