Mathiesen_Wins

Additionally, Mikkel Mathiesen was the  individual champion with his 13-under total, marking the first time a Raider has won the individual title since former Wright State standout Ryan Wenzler in 2016. Mathiesen's individual title is the seventh overall individual Horizon League honor in Wright State history, giving the Raiders the most individual champions in League history.

Mathiesen carded six birdies in his bogey-free final round, including on the 18th hole, to finish with a round of 65 on Tuesday, the new lowest round in Horizon League Championship history. Mathiesen's three-round score of 203 set a new Horizon League record for lowest 54-hole individual score, shattering the previous mark of 210 that had been carded on four occasions.

Tyler Goecke, who finished second individually at eight-under, carded a three-round total of 208 to also break the previous Horizon League low round mark.

Austin Greaser's Post-Masters Thoughts
By Sean Melia, Contributing Writer

2022-04-04_In_Front_of_LeaderboardFor any amateur competing in The Masters, the test is stern, and it doesn’t start with the opening tee shot on Thursday. Austin Greaser spent plenty of time in the lead-up to The Masters playing Augusta National and learning as much as he could about the greens, tee shots, and how to manage the tricky terrain.

However, as Greaser reflected on his week at Augusta National, the golf wasn’t all that different from any other event. It’s the same small golf ball and set of clubs.

Eaton CC Celebrates Centennial Year of Clubhouse

Eaton600A 100 Year celebration is planned for Saturday, July 23rd to showcase Eaton County Club’s historic Clubhouse, its 9-Hole golf course and to recognize the contribution it has had to the local community.

A full day of activities is planned and the public is encouraged to participate.  Plans are for a 9-hole scramble golf outing and an Open House celebration in the ballroom with light refreshments provided.

ECC dates to 1915 when a lease taken on land of which part was seeded into a few primitive holes along Hillcrest Rd and Rt. 732. Sheep were used as mowers and Hole 1 was the current hole 5. As time passed, in 1924 the green for Hole 9 was built.  So Eaton CC does not have one original date for the course, but it does for the Clubhouse, which is 1922.

Last Week's Rules Question
With the beginning of the Tournament Season Upon Us we will forgo the Rules Questions until the Fall

Player_from_BunkerA player plays their ball from a greenside bunker over the green and onto the next teeing area, where while in motion another playing that is making a practice swing accidentally strikes the ball. The ball then comes to rest in a yellow penalty area. What is the ruling?

A - The player must replay the shot from the bunker and cancel the previous stroke.

B - The player has the option to play the ball from the spot in which it was deflected by an outside agency or cancel the stroke, place a ball or another ball on the original spot in the bunker, and replay the shot without penalty.

C - The ball may be placed on the spot that it was accidentally struck on the tee and played from there, without penalty as the ball was deflected by an outside agency.

D - The player must play the ball as it lies, take penalty area relief, or replay the shot from the bunker under stroke and distance penalty.

Answer/Explanation:

If a player's ball in motion accidentally hits any person or outside influence, the ball must be played as it lies, except in two situations:

Exception 1 - When Ball Played from Anywhere Except Putting Green Comes to Rest on Any Person, Animal or Moving Outside Influence: The player must not play the ball as it lies. Instead, the player must take relief:

  • When Ball Is Anywhere Except on Putting Green. The player must drop the original ball or another ball in this relief area (See Rule 14.3):
    • Reference Point: The estimated point right under where the ball first came to rest on the person, animal or moving outside influence.
    • Size of Relief Area Measured from Reference Point: One club-length, but with these limits:
    • Limits on Location of Relief Area:
    • Must be in the same area of the course as the reference point, and
    • Must not be nearer the hole than the reference point.
  • When Ball Is on Putting Green. The player must place the original ball or another ball on the estimated spot right under where the ball first came to rest on the person, animal or moving outside influence, using the procedures for replacing a ball under Rules 14.2b(2) and 14.2e.

Exception 2 - When Ball Played from Putting Green Accidentally Hits Any Person, Animal or Movable Obstruction (Including Another Ball in Motion) on Putting Green: The stroke does not count and the original ball or another ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) (See Rule 14.2), except in these two cases:

  • Ball in Motion Hits Another Ball at Rest or Ball-Marker on Putting Green. The stroke counts and the ball must be played as it lies. (See Rule 11.1a for whether a penalty applies in stroke play).
  • Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Flagstick or Person Attending Flagstick. This is covered by Rule 13.2b(2), not by this Rule.

Penalty for Playing Incorrectly Substituted Ball or Playing Ball from a Wrong Place in Breach of Rule 11.1: General Penalty under Rule 6.3b or 14.7a.

Example: When playing a shot from the general area my ball strikes another ball at rest on a green and deflects away from where it would have come to rest. Or I play a shot that hits my own golf cart and deflects 20 yards behind my original location. In both situations the deflection was accidental, and the ball is to be played as it lies.

So, The Answer was D
