FTSG for the 1st Weekend in December
US Open WOmen's Contest Now Open
Make Selections Here

uswo-championship-exemptionsThe last major of the 2020 Season takes place this upcoming week when the USGA Conducts the US Women's Open at the Champions Golf Club in Houston, TX.

To get involved and win FABULOUS Swag all you have to do is follow this link to make your selections

The way the contest will work is you make one selection from each group. The best final score in each match-up wins. Ties within a group will both win points (eg if Danielle Kang and Nelly Korda both finish at -5, low for their group, then either selection would be awarded its corresponding points).

Jordan Gilkison Junior Player of the Year in the Miami Valley

Gilkison_AwardWhat an incredible season the #1 ranked junior in Ohio had. Not only did Jordan win the State Boy's DI State Championship in late October, but he also came in second in the Dye Junior Invitational at Crooked Stick and had two other top 5 finishes in AJGA events.  The first was in the Sean Foley Performance Jr. Championship where he came in 4th and then the Under Armour Jordan Spieth Championship where he came in 5th.

In this fall’s High School Season, the Springboro Senior, won 5 invitationals and 6 dual matches and on the way to the state he was the Sectional Medalist and District Runner-Up.  Oh, and if that was not strong enough his High School Stroke average was 69.9.

Jordan will be heading off to Kent State next fall to continue his academic and golf career where his two-time Metropolitan Champion older brother Josh will have just graduated.

Congratulations to our 2020 Junior Player of the Year – Jordan Gilkison

We wanted to bring to your attention an ESPN+ documentary 'Tiger Woods: America's Son' currently available on ESPN+ which is also connected with Disney+ or Hulu so it should be easy to find.

The show takes viewers into his complex racial identity and how his success has affected golfers of color.

Worth the watch!

SINGLE LEG BALANCE

YFLV6043The screen that we hear the most groans with during our golf fitness assessments is the single leg balance screen.  Almost every golfer knows that they are going to be bad at it.  The funny part about it is that it is probably the easiest fitness characteristic to get better at, quickly.  The screen measures your overall balance and highlights any proprioceptive imbalances from left to right as well as overall “core” stability.

Our bodies use 3 internal control systems to help maintain balance throughout the golf swing: eyes, ears (inner ear), and the nervous system.  These three systems function together supplying the brain with tons of information from our surroundings and our bodies, so muscles and joints make the appropriate adjustments.  This system is a powerful and accurate balance control mechanism - unless the channel of communication between any of them is broken.

Random Golf Footnotes from John Fischer
Joyce Wethered

Joyce Wethered, an English star in the 1920s, ‘outclassed’ Jones in an exhibition just days before he started on his 1930 Grand Slam

There was a time when two of golf’s greats met head to head, which isn’t unusual at all, but here’s the twist: one was a man, the other a woman. One was from the United States, the other from England. They played from the men’s tees, straight up, with no strokes given nor asked for. Together, the two dominated golf in the 1920s.

Who's this Golfer?
Question_Golfer

We had so much fun with last weeks "Identify the Golfer", which was Curtis Strange we decided to jump deep into the MVGA archives and look for someone from our area.  If the year helps it was 1999 when this photo was taken.

If you think you know, send us an email at info@mvgolf.org and we will send the first three people a Hole Flag from the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach
