Playing it Forward ! |
The Thanksgiving Season brings a time of greater reflection. It's easy to see that our sport has provided a great deal to be thankful for. Why not help future generations by easing the financial burden of entry into our game?
Over the last 18 months we have brought the National Youth on Course Program to our area. The programs purpose is to reduce the expense for young golfers by only charging $5 or less to play golf. |
In the Miami Valley, this national program is only in use at three facilities, Heatherwoode, Reid Park and Yankee Trace. And while it served 571 junior golfers more than 1,500 rounds this past season, our intention is to grow throughout our service area so every potential junior golfer can take advantage.
In this time of thanks we want you to be a part of this program through our easy online donation feature through our friends at Flipcause or the Dayton Foundation. No amount it too small or too large and there are additional monthly options as well!
Thank you for your consideration and please give if you can!
If you have any questions please contact our Executive Director by calling 937-294-6842 or emailing sjurick@mvgolf.org

SEMINAR TO Prepare for the World Handicap System |
For a few weeks we have been releasing items to help you and your club prepare for the World Handicap System which goes into effect after the first of the year. There is no doubt in our mind that while we have a few months to prepare... if your club is not prepared, it will come in like a Lion as we get into the meat of the season. To help everyone prepare we will have an Educational Seminar on Saturday, December 7th at Dayton Country Club. The Session will start at 10am and conclude by 2pm. Lunch will be included in the $30 registration fee. To Register |
THE WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM |
Each Format of Play Now Has a Recommended % of Course Handicap. With the launch of WHS there no longer is a bonus for excellence built into the system, therefore, to address it's absence there will be recommended percentages for different forms of play. Historical Reflections |
A Hole in One is a highlight of any golf career. We began tracking them in the Miami Valley in 2011, when we started our course results submission program to assist the Dayton Daily News and as a back up for when they did not get posted. Since then we have had 1011 aces for an average of just over 112 per season. The lowest number of aces reported was in the first year (2011) with just 91 reported. The highest was in 2017 when we had 163 reported. This year, through today, it looks like we we just beat 2011 with 92 reported. It's not too chilly... I bet we add a few more before the years out! |
US OPEN FINAL BACK AT SPRINGFIELD CC |
The final stop on the way to the US Open once again runs through Springfield CC on Monday, June 8.
The 120th US Open will be contested June 15-21 at the Historic Winged Foot Golf Club just north of New York City.
Competitors reach our Final Stop via two methods. Either by advancing through one of the Local Qualifiers held throughout the US or by receiving an exemption based on past performances or World Golf Ranking.
Walking Scorers will again be used for this Qualifier and we look forward to seeing many of you who have been involved in past years!
