FTSG for Memorial Day Weekend
COVID-19 AND THE GOLF RESTART BEGINNING ON TUESDAY, MAY 26TH
Golf-Course-Operator_For_Posting_2020-05-15_-_Half_ImageThe State this past week released the responsible restart document for Golf Courses and while there has been some softening in a few areas, most of the golf experience you have become familiar with will remain the same.

Perhaps the biggest softening corresponds with the opening of our restaurants in allowing additional flexibility for two people to ride in the same cart if they are comfortable together.

However, still in place is the ban on shotgun starts or other methods of play that lead to players completing their rounds at the same or similar times and the required removal of common touchable surfaces (water coolers, bunker rakes, ball washers, etc).  Our flagsticks must still not be touched and modifications to remove the ball from the hole will still be in place.

And remember....What is allowed at one golf course may not be allowed at another due to local Health Department Interpretations!

To review the States requirements on all of us as golfers.

USGA CANCELS ALL QUALIFYING FOR 2020
USGA_on_ShoulderAnother sign of the strange times we live in, the USGA on Tuesday announced what had been projected almost since the beginning of this Pandemic, the cancellation of all qualifying for the 2020 Championship Season.   The logistics of travel, local and state regulations would have made it impossible.  They do hope to be able to start the Four Ball Qualifying this Fall for the 2021 season.  USGA Press Release

The last time there was a season without a non venue qualifying for the US Open was 1923 when the 300 entries played three days immediately before the championship at Inwood CC, on the Far Eastern Side of Long Island less than a 1000 yards from now JFK Airport in New York.  That is the year Bobby Jones won his first of 4 US Open Championships.  History of US Open Qualifying

US Amateur Qualifying began in 1931 the year it was held at Beverly CC just outside of Chicago, that Championship was won for the Second Time by Francis Ouimet.

A NOTE ON OUR YOUTH ON COURSE PROGRAM
YOC_BannerOne of our core beliefs at Miami Valley Golf is believing that every child deserves access to the life changing opportunities that our game can provide regardless of socioeconomic status.

With that in mind, in 2018, we teamed up with Youth on Course to bring this national program to our Miami Valley area.

Youth on Course members can play at participating courses for $5 or less during allotted times, after paying a small membership fee which is also $5.

Our foundation (Miami Valley Golf Foundation) supports this program locally by supplementing the difference in green fees to the participating facility.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will need additional assistance as some of our opportunity for fund raising will not be available.  If possible, we encourage you to support this program.

An easy online contribution can be made here.

Thank you for your consideration!
Is your MEMBERSHIP ACTIVE?
GHIN_Online_JoinIs your GHIN Membership currently inactive?  Meaning can you currently post scores?  Clearly there are plenty of reasons you may not be active.  However, if you indeed intend to renew and would like to avoid all social distancing concerns you may do so online.

When you join online just choose the facility that you traditionally play or join eClub if you are not affiliated with a golf course and all the back end actions happen automatically.

It's easy, safe and a great way to help support our game!

Thanks for your consideration!

Golf Fitness - sway - the hip killer

sway_pictureA sway is any excessive lower body lateral movement away from the target during the backswing.  If we aren’t rotating around the hip but moving laterally it will cause the pelvis to side bend and anterior tilt excessively which just loads the hip and dramatically reduces the intra-articular space in the hip.  If you do this enough it will most certainly lead to hip complications down the road.

Mobility restrictions with hip internal rotation, ankle eversion, thoracic spine extension/rotation, tibial internal rotation, or stability limitations in the hip or “core” can all be factors leading to the sway characteristic.  That’s a long list of possibilities.  Of course I will always say you need to get screened to find out what you need to work on, but here’s some correctives for a couple of the most common restrictions.

Score Posting Questions
Send Additional Questions to info@mvgolf.org
Q: If I don't hole out in the "Traditional Sense" do I still post my score ?
Ball_in_HoleA: Yes,While in all of these instances, the ball is not holed per the Rules of Golf (Rule 3.3c), a round played under these conditions will result in an acceptable score for handicap purposes using the most likely score guidelines (see Rule 3.3 of the Rules of Handicapping).
Q: How can I post my score if the clubhouse is closed ?
GHIN_App_IconA: Given the current concerns of spreading the Coronavirus, we are recommending that you use the USGA-GHIN Mobile Appor post through our siteor ghin.com.  This is also a good recommendation moving forward and we will likely begin phasing out our Scoring Kiosks wherever possible to avoid future contaminations.
Q: I can't post a score as it says I'm inactive and I can't go into the Golf Shop to renew.
A: You can renew at almost all of our Public Access Facilities by following this link and selecting where you play the most golf
when to NOT post your scores
March 15th signaled the start of the New Score Posting Season in the Miami Valley.  Here are a few things to remember when it comes to NOTposting your score.  All other times you should!

When_to_PostSo, don't post your score....
  • When your score can’t be verified by another person
  • While being coached on the course
  • When you play using non-conforming clubs, non-conforming balls, or non-conforming tees;
  • When you don't play the required number of holes, Less than 6 for 9, less than 14 for 18.  For the holes you haven’t played, you post net par for the hole.
  • And when you are not playing your own ball — scrambles, shambles or foursomes (alternate shot).

And remember...A key tenet of the World Handicap System is that it is based on the fact that a you will try to make the best score at every hole in every round.

So you post just about everything and that includes scores when you play Preferred Lies or adapting to modified Holes due to the Coronavirus !
