Back Where it All Began

In the Spring of 1919, a group of area golfers met to draw up the conditions for an Amateur Championship. Each of the four area clubs at that time, Community, Dayton, MacGregor & Miami Valley would qualify 16 players to send to Dayton CC for an 18 Hole Stroke Play Qualifier to determine the 32 player Match Play field.

After all the rounds and matches Vin Hilton won the inaugural Championship Match when he defeated Walter Lamfersick 8 & 7 in the 36 Hole Final played on September 9, 1919.

To celebrate the 100th Anniversary we are returning to where it all began when Dayton CC host what has commonly become know as the Metropolitan Championship.

Play begins this Thursday at 7:30am and will conclude, weather dependent on Sunday Afternoon.

Take Part in the Metropolitan Contest

Now in it's eighth year, the contest works by choosing one player from each of the selection groups. The groups are determined by alphabetical order.

At the conclusion of the Metropolitan, your selected players final positions will be totaled. If your selections collectively finish the lowest you will win six (6) dozen personalized Pro-V1's (or any ball of your choosing).

Contestants who are DQ'ed, Withdraw, No Card or No Show will be assigned the next finish number after the 36th or 72nd hole depending on whether they make the cut or not.

US Amateur Qualifier at Moraine

78 Players will tee off on Monday at Moraine CC to try and be one of the two qualifiers to play in the 119th US Amateur. This years national championship will be held over the Courses 2 & 4 at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club, August 12-18.

Tee Times Begin at 7am off of both tees and the afternoon rounds start at 12:30pm in this 36 Hole Qualifier. For More Information

A Nice Run at the US Junior Amateur

Congratulations to Austin Greaser for reaching the Quarterfinals in this weeks US Junior Amateur held just up I-75 at the Inverness Club in Toledo, OH.

Austin Qualified to the US Jr. out of the Columbus Qualifying site (One of 56 Locations) He then had scores of 71 and 73 to finish T16 to reach Match Play. He went on to win three matches before losing in the Quarterfinals (Rd of 8) yesterday morning.

PLAY IN THE HICKORY SHAFT EVENT AT MIAMI VALLEY

Miami Valley Golf Club will again welcome Hickory Shaft Golfers to help celebrate MVGC’s 100th Anniversary on Friday, August 16th, and Saturday, August 17th. Ladies and Men of all abilities are welcome, but play must be with Hickory Shafted Clubs. If you don't have clubs they will be available.
