We all need to protect ourselves form the harmful rays of the sun and the menacing bugs, but please help protect me when applying your sprays by avoiding standing on me when doing so. My friends the Cart Paths, Parking Lots, even the Rough can handle it better than I.

I know I can be temperamental this time of year, but I can't cover up like you and boy is the sun hot.

PLAY IN THE HICKORY SHAFT EVENT AT MIAMI VALLEY

Miami Valley Golf Club will again welcome Hickory Shaft Golfers to help celebrate MVGC’s 100th Anniversary on Friday, August 16th, and Saturday, August 17th. Ladies and Men of all abilities are welcome, but play must be with Hickory Shafted Clubs. If you don't have clubs they will be available.

eight advance to the us woMEN'S aMateur

A perfect day for golf greeted the 77 players who teed off in the US Women's Amateur Qualifier this past Thursday. This year it took a 1 under par 71, on the 6300 yard Walnut Grove Course to qualify. The Co-Medalist, Lauren Hartlage from Elizabethtown, KY, (For the second year in row) and Haylin Harris from Carmel, IN, shot a three under par 69. Also qualifying was Mia Kness, Alysaa Burritt, Alexandra Swayne, Alex Wright, Allison Corpuz and Kary Hollenbaugh.

Thanks to the over 40 volunteers who helped with scoring, timing and spotting and Walnut Grove CC for being such a great Host Facility.

Look for our Qualifiers when they take part in the US Women's Amateur, August 5-11 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.

Ohio Amateur Champion Crowned at Moraine CC

The chase for the 2019 Ohio Amateur golf championship came down to a dual between a 36-year-old former Ohio State golfer and a teenager who will soon become a member of the Buckeye squad.

It was the teenager, Maxwell Moldovan of Uniontown, who emerged with a one-stroke victory Friday over Scott Anderson at Moraine Country Club.

Moldovan, the son of a golf professional, matched Anderson’s 2-under-par 69 in the final round to win the tournament with a 7-under par total of 277. He had scores of 68, 73, 67 and 69 and made a hole-in-one on Moraine’s fifth hole on Thursday.

Anderson shot 69, 74, 66 and 69 for his 278 total.

Those in the field from our area who played all 72 holes where Kyle Schmidt (T3), Austin Sipe, Peter Samborsky & Tyler Goecke (T6), Luke Wells (T11), Caleb Westfall (T19), Josh Gilkison (T27), Frankie Morgan (T29) Dhaivat Pandya (T34) & Jordan Gilkison (T37) - Look for many of these great amateurs to play in next weeks Metropolitan Championship at Dayton CC.

Thanks to all the volunteers from the Miami Valley who provided on course scoring throughout the championship.
