FTSG for the Middle of December
A Direct Message from the USGA
WHS_AGA_MiamiValley_for_Web_LogoOn January 1, 2020, the World Handicap System will officially launch in the United States, delivering the first universal Rules of Handicapping for all golfers. For the first time in the U.S., every Handicap Index will now be computed through a centralized database to ensure consistency and integrity in every number.  In anticipation of this significant change, golfers in the U.S. will not be able to post scores or access their Handicap Index between January 1-5, 2020 as we migrate to the new technology. Starting on January 6, golfers will be able to post any scores they missed during this temporary down time, and any rounds played between January 1 – 5 will be used for handicapping purposes under the new World Handicap System.
To expand on the USGA's statement
Your MVGA-GHIN membership will transfer to the new system.

Rolling out after the 1st of the year will be a refreshed Score Entry Kiosk, App and Website and the default score entry method will be hole by hole, which you can easily change.  We will encourage you to post hole by hole so that the hole data can be leveraged to better support our game and so the new Max Score Feature can be correctly applied.

An additional World Handicap Seminar will be added shortly as well!

WHO POSTED THE MOST ROUNDS IN 2019

Gordon_WillinsDuring our Active Score Posting Season, March 15 - November 30, Gordon Willins a member of the Heatherwoode Golf Clubs Handicap System posted an incredible 186 rounds of golf, which is basically every playable day.  Clearly his retirement lifestyle is the envy of many, including this contributor.  To top it all off he has a Handicap Index of 3.6 and has won many, many events in his lifetime and was our 2007 Senior Player of the Year.  Here is a picture of him playing in this summer's 100th Metropolitan.

Historical Reflection
In golf, President Taft finds a national treasure
A story by our friend John Fischer and shared with his and the Morning Reads Permission
TaftWilliam Howard Taft, the 27th American president, goes down in history as one of the most avid golfers to occupy the White House and certainly would have endorsed this week’s Presidents Cup

William Howard Taft wasn’t the best golfer to occupy the Oval Office, but he certainly stood out as being among the most avid.

Taft, the 27th U.S. president, preceded the advent of the Presidents Cup, a biennial golf match between the U.S. and Internationals that will play its 13th edition this week in Melbourne, Australia. But Taft, who died in 1930 after serving as president from 1909 to 1913 and then 1921-30 as the Supreme Court’s chief justice, no doubt would have enjoyed the festivities.
