celebrating the 100th anniversary

As we all know the world was a much different place in 1919.  From a golf standpoint there was only four courses in the Greater Dayton Area.  Community Country Club had been open for just one year, although their was some play on the property prior to the opening.  MacGregor Golf Course had been open only a couple of years and it was only nine holes.  Many will remember it as the old DP&L course that closed a few decades ago.  Miami Valley Golf Club was just getting opened and Dayton Country Club had been at it's current location a little over a decade.  But there was enough of a golf scene to begin an Amateur Championship.

This year we celebrate its 100th Anniversary when it will be contested where it all began, at Dayton Country Club in late July.

Over the coming months we will share with you articles that we have recovered thanks in no small part to Nick Ungard's contribution.  The photo within this brief is that of the front page of the Sports Section from the Sunday, Sept. 7, 1919 Dayton Sunday News.

Twitter Survey Question RESULTS
LAST WEEKS POLE
With the World Golf Championship being played at 7800 ft in elevation and all the talk about adapting to longer yardages due to thin air, would it be wrong for elite level players to play with a ball that impacts ball flight the other way?

59% of those taking the poll did not think it would be wrong if elite players played with a shorter ball.

The real question? who will manufacture it, as they likely don't want to be know as that company that makes that short ball..
This Weeks Twitter Pole Question
