Course Raters Recognized |
The very fabric of our game is supported through Volunteerism. Each Fall, we pause to recognize two of our very best from the Course Rating Committee. This year it is Debbie Fredericks and Al Schoolcraft for their faithful execution of their Course Rating Duties. The Course Rating System, which includes the development of the Ratings and Slope for each golf course is the very foundation of our Net Game and we thank Al, Debbie and all those involved with the maintaining this intricate system. |

THE WORLD HANDICAP SYSTEM |
Beginning in 2020 a brand-new set of Rules for Handicapping will be introduced globally. |
Safeguards in the New System The new system will limit extreme upward movement of a Handicap Index, automatically and immediately reduce a Handicap Index when an exceptional score of at least 7 strokes better is posted, and account for abnormal course or weather conditions to ensure that scores reflect when a course plays significantly different than its established Course Rating and Slope Rating. These safeguards help maintain accuracy of a Handicap Index, greater integrity within the system and promote fun and fair play for golfers of all abilities. Historical Reflections - 1924 APL at Community |
From the American Golfer (1924) The 1924 Amateur Championship for Public Link Golfers, held at Dayton, Ohio, was won by Joe Coble of Philadelphia, who three years ago resolved to gain the honor, and no golfer ever worked harder to overcome difficulties than he did. At the end of the qualifying round he was far down the list with a score of 163. Earl McAleer of Washington, an excellent player, won the medal with 150, playing a record-breaking round of 70 on the first day. McAleer's good work was of great assistance to the Washington team, which won the Warren G. Harding intercity trophy.... To See all the Clippings from the USGA Archives |
DDWGA Shamble Event May 18th at Urbana CC |

Why are we still in The Active Handicap Season? |
There are three primary reasons we are still in our "Active Season" for score posting.
First, our weather patterns have extended better playing conditions later into the fall…(Not Currently, that's for sure!) Second, just because the calendar says we are open for score posting, does not mean that individual facilities are not free to follow their agronomic practices. As soon as a courses' rated conditions change with shorter lengths for temporary tees or greens or any other factor, the Course Rating is not accurate and the scores cannot be posted. Third, in preparing for the the World Handicap System that was slated to start in 2018, which was pushed back to 1/1/2020 there is a Playing Conditions Calculation built in the system to adjust a persons score differential for that day More on Calculation |

NCR Fire |
Unless you live under a rock, in a bunker, you did not miss the fire on all the News Outlets this past Monday Evening.
Here are a few pictures of the damage.
At last report, they did not know when the clubhouse would reopen as they did not have power and a number of other structural items needed to be reviewed...
I'm sure knowing the Staff and Members they will bounce back stronger than ever!
Best of Luck in Putting it Back together! |
