From the Short Grass for June 9th
Thank You, Thank You, Thank YouJune 9, 2018

Late Monday Night we completed another successful Sectional Qualifier for our U.S. Open. For the last six years we have very successfully been able to highlight the road to the U.S. Open through our collective efforts of providing live scoring! They say it takes a village and certainly there was, as over 90 volunteers helped with Monday's Qualifier at Springfield CC.  We wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who made Monday's Qualifier such a success.

Thank you, for your assistance in “golf’s longest day.”

Review the US Open Sectional
Cincinnati's Will Grimmer led the way in grabbing both the low qualifier and low amateur medals in Monday's US Open Sectional at Springfield CC.  The Ohio State Golfer finished at 5 under par, which due to the windy conditions, was also the highest medalist scores since the qualifier has been held at Springfield CC.  In second position at 4 under was Dylan Meyer who just turned professional after completing his collegiate career at Illinois. In third position was tour veteran Brain Stuard who qualified for the US Open for the 4th time out of SCC.

A three for two playoff at 2 under par completed the day when Ball State Golfer Timothy Wiseman and David Gazzolo outlasted last years medalist Corey Conners.

National Hickory Golf at the Mound Today

Today, the National Hickory Championships are completing their final round.  Golfers from all over the United States meet annually to play with equipment that was used in the early years of our game. The championship is being played at the historic Mound Golf Course in Miamisburg. The Mound provides a classic design that is perfect for the use of hickory golf clubs.

The championship is a 36-hole contest and all clubs must be approved replicas of old hickory clubs. All players use golf balls that replicate the flight of those early golf balls. In addition, players use sand tees and are expected to dress in old fashioned clothes.

If you want to view golf the way it was played over 100 years ago, head over to the Mound today.
